Powered by DNA that’s equal parts bold and brilliant, XG’s MTV VMAJ triumphs are a celebration of their unmistakable sound and style.

The girls of XG just proved that their star power is officially out of this world. On March 19th, the boundary-breaking seven-member group snagged not one, but two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan (MTV VMAJ) — walking away with Best Visual Effects and Performance of the Year. And because serving major main character energy is just in their DNA, they did it all while celebrating a major win for XGALX CEO & Executive Producer JAKOPS (SIMON), who earned the prestigious Best Producer award.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about that stage moment. XG hit the VMAJ with their signature futuristic flair, giving the crowd a live performance of ‘WOKE UP’ and the recently released ‘IS THIS LOVE,’ which is already climbing charts and making waves globally. Fun fact? ‘WOKE UP’ has been reigning on the Billboard Global Japan Songs Excl. Japan chart for nine consecutive weeks. (Yes, power move.)
Of course, in true XG fashion, they had to add a little extraterrestrial spice to their acceptance speeches. “We believe that aliens reside in every part of us, so we’re going to give our all in this performance!” they quipped, making sure to thank their fans, crew, and of course, JAKOPS (SIMON), who got a glowing shoutout from the stage.

JAKOPS, the multi-hyphenate genius behind XGALX, has spent years crafting XG’s signature sound and vision. From his Seattle roots to his days as a member of DMTN (DALMATIAN), his music journey has culminated in an undeniable legacy that led to his big win at the VMAJ. Safe to say, the man knows how to make a statement.
Speaking of statements, apart from owning the stage, XG dominated the red carpet too. Strutting in Alexander Wang archive pieces (courtesy of creative director Alex himself, who’s apparently a certified XG stan), the group served edgy silver and black looks that could stop traffic.
Moreover, if you think that’s where the XG domination ends, think again. The girls are currently in the middle of their electrifying world tour, ‘The First HOWL,’ with upcoming stops across China and Latin America before a grand finale at the Tokyo Dome. Oh, and they’re also about to make history as the only Japanese act performing at Coachella 2025. Casual.
Need more XG in your life? Mark your calendars for May 14th, because their new single ‘MILLION PLACES’ is dropping in both CD Box and Digital formats. Yes, we’re already counting down the days.
Aliens, awards, and Alexander Wang — XG’s universe just keeps expanding.
