Yet another one of our beloved K-dramas has ended; and it’s time to go back to revisit those precious scenes. Was it something memorable or something easy to forget?
A Summer to Remember
Years after filming a viral documentary in high school, two bickering ex-lovers get pulled back in front of the camera — and into each other's lives. The drama is an adaptation of a webtoon by the same name.
Fun Fact: Naver Webtoon aired the English version of the drama at the same time as the drama premiered! The star-studded cast includes Choi Woo Shik as Choi Woong, Kim Da Mi as Gook Yeon Soo, Kim Sung Chul as Kim Ji Woong, and Roh Jeong Eui as NJ.
This heartwarming drama really told a great love story. Plus, the acting, the official soundtrack, the cinematography were top notch! The narrations of the documentary and the way they connected it with their present life was done beautifully. Nothing seemed unnecessary or excessive. Every minor scene had its own significance. Additionally, the side characters were also given due diligence.
Each character’s unnoticed act of service was delivered flawlessly. The post-credits highlighted unmemorable scenes in a different light. We actually think it’s very realistic that the coming-of-age genre here is extended into the late 20s. As it is normally done within teenage years or early twenties, Our Beloved Summer shows us that there are growing pains beyond our teenage years.
A Predictable Plot That We Loved Anyway
For avid K-drama fans, the plot would seem a bit disappointing as they anticipate a more fun and frolic story rather than a predictable plot. Nonetheless, it did manage to grab attention by relaying an ordinary story with sweetness and justice.
Our Beloved Summer is truly a one of a kind slice-of-life drama that has no magical happily-ever-after, but leaves the viewers with a heart filled with content! Do you still feel the void after completing this drama and want to fill up the gap in your watch playlist? Don’t miss out on the full documentary filmed by the actors, which is available on the SBS YouTube channel!
If we would sum up the message of this -Kdrama in a few phrases it would be: always make an effort to be a better version of yourself. Communicate with each other. Love each other on the good and bad days.
Farewell, Our Beloved Summer!
