If you became a bit teary-eyed after watching BTS' thoughtful music video for"Life Goes On", then high five us.
November 20, 2020, marked the comeback of one of the biggest boybands the world has ever seen; BTS. With the premiere of their latest song and MV, "Life Goes On", the septet perfectly mirrored the raw pain, unfiltered thoughts, and courageous hope that we all have felt since the start of the pandemic.
With the opening lyrics alone, "Without any warning, the world stopped", BTS already hit us straight in the heartstrings. The profound song continues to hit home with words like:
"Like an echo in the forest, the day will come, as if nothing had happened. Yeah life goes on. Like an arrow in the blue sky, we're flying another day".
"People say the world has changed, but thankfully, between you and me nothing's changed"
"I can't see the end. Is there any way out? My feet refuse to move. Oh, close your eyes for a moment. Here, hold my hand. Let's run to the future"
During the time leading up to the group's comeback, it was already apparent that they would be setting about to address the experiences during the pandemic. "Life Goes On" is a true paragon packed with raw emotion that not only conveys a relatable message of uninhibited pain, but also speaks volumes of hope for the future.
The poignant track reflects the collective sentiment that the entire world feels at this very moment in time. It validates listeners' pain, yet makes it a point to show that we can turn this situation from a cage into an opportunity for gratitude, growth, and hope.
To match the contemplative lyrics, V, Jin, RM, Suga, Jungkook, Jimin, and J-Hope starred in a homey music video. It kicked off with V driving in a car, as he removed his protective face mask; a very strong characteristic of this era that will no doubt go down in history.
Next up, the septet was depicted doing the most mundane of tasks inside the house (like brushing teeth). They also went for solo roadtrips, bonded over intense video games while clad in pajamas, and fell asleep in front of the TV.
The culminating piece that crowned the music video was when Jin closed his eyes in their living room, and opened them to find himself and his bandmates on stage with an audience of ARMY Bombs. The symbolic notion represents the beautiful day when the world has healed and the people are once again free, and we're all looking forward to it with unfaltering hope.
"Life Goes On" is a blanket of warmth, perfect for your quiet Sunday mornings with your cup of tea, while you watch the sun cover our planet in love;
letting time pass by for better days to come. BTS' newest track is a springboard that is bound to launch fans into more riveting songs that their album holds. What a time to just BE.
